We don't like plastic. BUT. There's always a BUT, right?

Plastic packaging is used for many reasons... branding, weighing, and most importantly in the food industry, SHELF LIFE.

For some products such as cucumbers, it can drastically extend shelf life in a way that it's hard to recreate, even at home. But for many things are ways to compensate at home and allow things to last just as long, even when you buy fruit and vegetables that are 'unplasticked'!
